Our Dog Luz

Time flies, yes, it’s a cliché of the month, but still 🙂 Luz, our dog, is turning 2 years old this month, and I’ve learned so much from her. The challenges of a Portuguese dog are indeed present. I always say: you cross paths with each other for a reason, and that certainly applies to Luz and our family too.

We are a family of four with quite a lot of energy, especially high energy 🙂 and then comes a little firecracker with a very small heart. Just like all four of us, we are quite present and want to experience everything around us, but sometimes we prefer to retreat from the world and have a deep longing to find peace. And you can see that in Luz too. I find the difference between breeds and origins very interesting to observe. As a child, I grew up with Labradors, each with their own character but generally calm, accommodating, and waiting for commands. Luz is a mix of many things, but mostly terrier. She is headstrong, clever, and actually very scared. It’s interesting to see how she approaches the world: if it’s scary, she’ll bark loudly (a beautiful mirror) and won’t seek help (another beautiful mirror). It’s our task to remain calm, give her the confidence that we see her, and teach her that she can ask for help.

And then you see all your knowledge reflected in your own dog. Due to stress, Luz sometimes can’t relax properly, which manifests in her excessive barking (in our eyes, at nothing), and her skin beautifully reflects what’s going on. If we don’t provide her with enough rest, cleanliness, and routine, her skin becomes darker in color and she gets itchy.

The skin is the barrier between the inner and outer world. Literally and figuratively, where are your boundaries? What do you let in? And what gets under your skin?

The solution for her itchiness is diverse: cooking more fresh vegetables for her along with the raw meat she gets, a bit more fish oil and other oils, explaining things to her, and above all, looking at our own internal process.

Because fortunately, I’m just a human with a dog, where I make plenty of mistakes and of course, also do a lot of things right. You can learn from mistakes, adjust, and reflect, and gradually become better at what we do.

Progress is better than perfection, just as we once learned to walk. You didn’t stop trying as a toddler because you had fallen 10 times already. No, you got up and tried again. Sometimes in the same way but also with different techniques, and then one day you could walk. It’s the same with health; it doesn’t always go smoothly at once. You try things and find out what works and what doesn’t. You try to tap into the self-healing ability, a band-aid, a cast, supplements, and herbs only start working when you help your body, which is made up of all these vibrating electrons, protons, and neutrons, to tune into the right vibration and thus let the chi, the life force, be full.

That is healing.

As Einstein said: “We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used when we created them.”

I’ve been sick for just 2 weeks, which is unusual for me. After a lot of supplements and healthy food, I felt a little better, but it only really got better when I could see that I could surrender to it, rest (while I was in the Netherlands and had a lot of appointments), and I searched on YouTube for music at the lung frequency. After that, things improved quickly. Yes!

So, the solution lies in several aspects: the body (nutrition), the emotion (surrender), and the energy (the lung frequency).

Isn’t life beautiful?
